If Mario's not in Hawaii, somethings wrong with the NFL...

Writer's Note: This blog entry is about Mario Williams, and the Pro Bowl. A game analysis will come soon enough. So keep your pants on!

Be honest now. Who actually believed through 14 games, Mario Williams would be a mere half a sack away from the league lead. With his 3.5 sack performance, he now leads the AFC with 13 sacks on the year, and an astounding 9 sacks in the last 5 games. He was an absolute beast out there, and with each sack, Mario is looking more, and more "super" with each game. However, at the top of the voting numbers among DEs is none other than Dwight Freeney. The Colts starting defensive end with a unparalleled 3 and a half sacks. Wow, now that's a probowl season! (I have to admit, textual sarcasm is very hard to do.) I beleive our hero most recently had that ammount in one day.

This makes me glad that the voting is only a third of the process. Otherwise, I'd be outraged.

Many of us were upset that the LB that was 2nd in Total Tackles last year with 156 was snubbed out of the probowl last year. Again, this year seems to be the case because the ILB that has the most votes is Tedy Bruschi. Nothing against the guy, but last time I checked he's not dominant. He has 2 sacks, 73 tackles, 0 FF, 0 FR and 0 INTs. Let's take a look at our very own linebacker... DeMeco Ryans has 121 tackles, 1 FF, 3 FR and 1 INT.

Fan voting makes me sick.

Lack of updates, but more to come...

Sorry for not keeping up with this thing. It's a mixture of no one reading it and laziness that keeps me from writing.

I will however, later today attempt to write all in one article about the last three games.

Here's a sneak preview for those of ya'll who don't watch the Texans.

We've won 2 out of 3.

Chargers game.

To see my thoughts and feelings about the Chargers game, take a look at the post made on Thursday, October 18, 2007 and multiply that exponentially by 35 (which was the Chargers score after the first half, by the way).

Snakebitten City

I think Warren Moon was right when he said that Houston was snakebitten. It's true. With all of the odd, horrifying, and confusing defeats throughout the years, while cities like Dallas, Boston and New York continually get breaks handed to them, it's safe to say Houston is snakebitten. In recent history there have been some very strange happenings around our sports scene. Game 5 of the 2005 NLCS, Rams @ Texans 2005, this game, Rockets emplosion in the playoffs last year, and much more included in the whole history of the city. The infamous Wild Card game, the inability for the Astros to get through the first round of the playoffs until 2004, the Texans being the only franchise to not have a playoff birth in their first 5 years, and even more than that! I have mixed feelings for yesterday's Texans game. I'm very excited that our defense held the Titans to 8 FGs instead of 8 TDs, and that we came back and scored 29 points in the 4th quarter, yet horrified that we allowed it to get that far out of reach to begin with and how it's impossible for us, and this City to hold down a lead with 1 minute left. (See 2005 Rams game and 1993 AFC Wild Card.)

Think about it. When Bud left this city, he brought a mediocre 8-8 Oilers team with him. 2 years later, where did it get him? Super Bowl XXXIV. They enjoyed success as one of the better AFC teams for another 5 years. When was the last time Houston had a football championship? 2006 Dynamo? Wrong football. In fact, it was in 1961. When we did have a dominant team, things mysteriously moved into place to block us from getting to the promised land. Think back to the Luv Ya Blue days. What prevented us? We were unstoppable to all teams but one. The Steelers. Now to the late 80s-early 90s. We had a very good team in the middle of those years, but could never make it.

Something left this city in the early 60s.

(I don't even want to recap Sunday's game because it was so bad...)

Texans killed last Sunday; Who cares about the score?

We got outcoached, out-refed, out-played, and any other out there is.

We stunk up the field.

We suck.

Bring on the Titans.

Texans win very ugly, but still a win. 22-19.

What an ugly win today, an UGLY win. For about 59 minutes and 10 seconds I was mad out of my mind. ANGRY, if you will. Terrible play call mixed in with terrible play was very frustrating to watch. We couldn't run the ball, we averaged 2.5 yards a carry against the worst run defense in the league. They ran the ball and passed well ALL game. Their passing stats may not show it, but they made some key 3rd down conversions with their passing play. Our passing game wasn't half bad, considering how bad it seemed on on the field. Matt Schaub at 294 yards passing today. That one pick wasn't his fault. I forget who it was intended to, but the receiver looked afraid to catch that ball on the play.
__

This is the controversial block by Trent Green that resulted in his concussion. I'm with TJ on this one, however I do think his words in the locker room were uncalled for yet true. Trent Green tried to hit TJ's knees on the play while TJ wasn't looking. This is a cheap block. VERY cheap. TJ was lucky he didn't have a broken knee, broken arm, or broken neck on the play. I don't want to say Trent Green deserved this injury, but he definitely brought it upon himself. I'll be praying for him for the rest of the season, or however long it is until he gets back.
__

Ronnie Brown ran all over our defense today, we just couldn't tackle the guy. It was annoying seeing all of our people just arm "tackle" him all game. We also made Cleo Lemon look like a probowler, much like we did Harrington last week. The one good thing about our defense is that we held them to field goals when we needed to. They had 4 field goals and a touchdown on the day.
__

On offense we looked equally inept as last week. With all our injurys to the receviers, you would think the passing game would be our worst problem, right? Wrong. Rushing today we had 60+ yards. 2.5 yards a carry will simply not cut it. The only good thing to come out of our rushing "attack" would be the play action worked well. Again 294 yards passing for Matt Schaub isn't half bad. Andre Davis is playing like this is his last game in the NFL. And 2 weeks ago, it probably would have. But after another 70 yard day, I say he's probably going to stay on the roster for a little while.
__

Somehow we won riding the boot of Kris Brown today, as he kicked a monsterous 57 yard field goal to win the game with 1 second left on the clock. He broke the franchise record for longest field goal 3 seperate times today. He's also only the 3rd player to kick 3 50+ yard field goals in a game. I wonder how many kickers have kicked 3 54+ field goals in one game?

Falcons upset Texans

Yeah, we lost. Let me tell you why I won't do a blog for this game. I was at the Astros game for Craig Biggio's last start as a Houston Astro. That didn't stop me from bringing my portable TV, but it ended up not working because I didn't realize the stupid brightness was down.

But yeah, for the things we did right, which aren't most, Andre Davis had 117 receiving yards and Matt Schaub had 300+ yards. It's his 4th start and he's already thrown 300 in a game. David Carr, who also got a start Sunday, has only 3 300 yard games in 6 years. David Carr did just as bad as he did for Houston for so long. Around 150 yards, and a couple of picks.

But yeah, that's all for the bright side. We stunk up the field. We had 3 redzone attempts, all were not converted into touchdowns but into field goals. Defense looked confused and running the ball wasn't any better.
____

Now, Craig Biggio has been an Astro for longer than I've been born. I can't imagine the Astros without him, but it's come true. It was a very emotional Sunday, with Biggio leaving, Texans losing, and the Cowboys winning. It sucked.

Craig Biggio's last game was a good one though, his first at bat he hit his last double-- his 3,060th hit of his career. He's one of the main reasons I'm proud to be an Astros fan. We'll miss seeing him at 2nd base.

The players were rotated in and out of the game, I guess to give everyone a chance to play one last time with Biggio in front of a record crowd in Minute Maid.

Texans lose 16-26, Astros win 3-0.

WRless, but truckin' on.

Okay, just think about it for a second. We're without a WR this week, and for a couple more weeks after that. But are we going to make a run to Arizona this year? No, most likely not. And sorry in advanced for thinking about next season, but really, it's what we're all used to. Think about next season Post-Draft. We'll have AJ, JJ as studs for sure. But maybe we take a WR first round next season? We may have 3 outstanding recievers, or maybe we take a CB first round and a good WR second round. We'll still have an outstanding WR corp, AND a temporary fix to our secondary problem?

You see, what's a problem this week, won't be a problem next year.

Moral Victories not wanted, but received.

Okay, let's face it. We weren't up to match up against the Colts. We had 2 of our key players out to injury, and 4 more got hurt along the way. The most dangerous and scariest injury was that of Cedric Killings. While trying to make a block, a helmet to helmet collision caused him to break invertibrae. He was mostly motionless for a few minutes, only holding his right hand up at the very start of the scare. He first complained he couldn't feel "down there", but later he showed he could move all extremities. He should be able to walk out of Methodist Hospital later this week, thank God. Jacoby Jones, rookie sensation out of Lane college, was hurt on a dazzling punt return that would have easily been converted into points if Schaub had not thrown such an ill-advised ball into triple coverage. With Ron Dayne out and with the loss of Ahman Green on the 2nd series, Samkon Gado and Jameel Cook were left with the running duties. When it became apparent the running game wouldn't be successful, we turned to the air. Schaub had 2 interceptions today, the first was a tipped ball turned pick. The 2nd, however, was one of the worst balls I've seen thrown in the past few years. He attempted to force a throw, but one of the 3 people covering came up with the pick. The second to last drive was the most impressive, but was too time consuming to have a realistic chance at a comeback. Matt Schaub ended the game with 14 consecutive completions, a touchdown and 236 yards. He also had two interceptions. Just to show you how bad our running attack was yesterday, our leading rusher was Jameel Cook, with 15 yards.

Our defense showed they could keep up a top 2 offense, dispite allowing a season high 30 points. Our run defense remained stout. Indy only had 92 yards rushing on 29 carries, with Addai only running for 72 of those yards. Our pass defense was a different story. Though Manning only had 273 yards passing (that's low for him...), and only 1 touchdown, our defensive backs were picked on all day. Mainly the matchup between Faggins vs. Whoever he was matched up against. He gave the Colts receivers 15 yard cushions all game, and they continued to pick on him all game. We would hold the Colts to 3rd down, but Faggins' cussions gave them a first down every time. At one point the Colts were 6-6 on 3rd down conversions. That's ridiculous. Our pass defense needs to be fixed fast.

Still the game was remarkably close. The Texans were down 27-10 one moment, the next they were down 24-30. This was all without Andre Johnson, Ahman Green, Ron "Colt Killer" Dayne, and many others. Jacoby Jones and Steve McKinney were hurt later in the game. What I like about this team is that we never give up. And even though moral victories are not welcome in the the Texans' lockeroom, you can't help but give them a pat on the back. They showed heart. Speaking of heart, can you imagine how loud it was in Reliant? From inside the stadium, you could tell it was loud with everyone in the stands yelling, but on the television (saw the game on NFL Replay) it's one of the loudest I've heard a stadium in a very long time. Hopefully we can keep it up as fans.

Next up, the Atlanta Falcons. Matt Schaub's homecoming.

uh, what?

I saw this a few weeks ago, but only now refound the link to show ya'll.

http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl_predictions_houston_texans.shtml

This website here, says the Texans will win a league low of 2 games. Now, I'm not saying its not possible. Oh, wait. Yeah I am. Here's why.

They are idiots.

From Baby Steps to Leaps

It's seems last year and actaully into this year's preseason we were taking baby steps. Somehow, we all missed the memo. With these last two games we went from last place finishers to maybe wild card winners. Unless we beat the Colts this week, which would mean we would have first place, and it would be ours to lose. But let me not get carried away.

A defensive line unit that had its shares of problems and heat for the past couple of years are now looking like one of the top in the NFL. Amobi Okoye is growing up faster than anyone thought, getting 2 sacks and a forced fumble Sunday. Travis Johnson was out due to injury, but it was something he says he could have "played on". TJ's replacement, Killings, was a presence on the field. Mario Williams was too, he was constantly double teamed which probably led to Akoye's sacks. This defensive line is certainly going to be special.

Our defense is in the top 10, for real this time. Last year and at the beginning of this year we used "We were a top 10 defense for the last 10 games of the 2006 season" as a reason we might beat the next opponent. Well, we can throw that out the window because we've been one for the season, even if the season has only been 2 games long.

While we may only be in the middle of the pack with total offense (averaging about 15th place between the categories), its still somethieng we've never felt before as a franchise. Matt Schaub is throwing more touchdowns than interceceptions, we have a running game with Green behind Schaub and Leach, and Andre Johnson is 4th in the league in recieving yards and tied for 4th in receptions. He might fall behind because there's a chance he might not play this week.

There's a reason I posted this a day late. I wanted to see the reaction at my school. Last year and the year before it, I was the only person to wear my Texans shirts and jerseys at school. Now, I'm not a fan of the the fairweathered fan, but I could see a significant difference in the number of jerseys around school. I counted 9. What a difference 2 games makes.
___

Okay, on to the game. Texans win 34-21.

Matt Schaub looked poised again, proving the Panther's defensive line may not be as good as what ESPN thinks. Our offensive line manhandled the Panther line, proving the Texans offensive line may have been much better than what ESPN thinks. And you know, what ESPN says, its truth. :/

My, my, our defense was great. Panthers fans were running around saying "zomg! Texans suck and our running backs will run all over your crappy players! RAWR!". This wasn't the case, the same Panther running backs that dominated the Rams didn't even get 70 yards against the Texans.

The Texans fell behind quickly, as did many Texans teams did in the past. But this time it was different. There's a different mindset in place now. We have the mind of a winner, and the city of Houston realizes that now after the win. After the initial 14 points by passes from Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith, the Texans rallied to score 34 unanswered. Both the consecutive points and the point total are now team records. The funniest quote out of the Panthers locker room is from Dan Morgan, their linebacker, when what happened. "I don't know." Exactly. No one knows what this team is capable of. Maybe even, beating the Colts.

Texans win 20-3!

To start things out, I show my reply to TH's Fan Blog on chron.com.

"At the game there was just a certain ambiance between the fans. There was just someting in the air and the fans knew it. I'm not sure how loud it was on TV, but it was pretty dang loud down on the field. So loud the cheifs called a timeout and committed a few false starts because of the volume.

The Texans defense was phenomenal. Anyone who drafted them for fantasy and was called an idiot then really cashed in now. In most magazines I looked at the Texans defense was ranked 32nd. They were the 2nd top point getter among the defenses this week. DeMeco Ryans continues to impress. I believe he stripped a ball didn't. Hey, speaking of the 2006 draft, How about Mario Williams? I'm glad he's finally settling in. He was an absolute beast. Von Hutchins was great after Simmons went down. They kept the run in check all game. O_O And what about Travis Johnson? Wow! He has some hands, doesn't he? I don't know how he did that.

Our offense looked good. Matt Schaub was excellent for his first start in a Texans uniform. Andre Johnson was the player of the game. Offensive line did decent during the run and pass. But wow, I don't want to say this, because I know everyone is... but I have to anyway. It looks like we've finally turned the corner. :P"

I mainly pointed out what I was going to say in there. :/ I'm lazy. Oh, and sorry for no entry this sunday, I was kinda busy at the moment. But, boy what a game.

Oh, and Mario Williams has more TD's than Reggie Bush. :X

Predictions?

Well, I've said throughout the preseason that I wouldn't predict the record until the end of it. Well, I'm dreading it now. I fear that unrealistic hopes for a 16-0 record will get in the way of the logical side of me. But whatever. Here goes nothing.

Week 1: Chiefs @ Texans (24-17)
The struggling defense of the Chiefs will allow the Texans to do some damage with their new weapons on offense. Matt Schaub will prove his worth to the Nation and Jacoby will show he's capable of starting. The vastly improving Texans offense will run all over the horrid Chiefs offense, especially with a depleated offensive line and the possiblity of LJ not playing much or at all. Our running game will struggle slighty, but only due to growing pains.

Week 2: Texans @ Panthers (24-21)
This one will be tougher. The Panthers have a good D and a great offense. But I think the fact that no true starting QB has emerged to lead this offense (Lord knows Carr won't lead anybody...) the Texans will have a chance to take advantage of the worsening Delhomme, and a below average running game. This game could go either way in my book.

Week 3: Colts @ Texans (21-17)
It's the Colts. The only reason why I'm giving the Texans a chance for this game is the fact we disrupted the Colts at home last season, and the Colts have an even worse defense. If the Texans win, I'll apologize gladly.

Week 4: Texans @ Falcons (27-14)
The Texans will dominate this game. Matt Schaub will gladly destroy the Falcons in his homecoming game. Joey Harrington is not Micheal Vick. The only way the Falcons were to become a winning team, or even contenders, was to have number 7. Now, with him out of the picture, an already bad offense is without its greatest weapon.

Week 5: Dolphins @ Texans (21-14)
Face it: The Dolphins are not the team they were a few seasons ago. They underwent coaching changes, and have a bad offense. Their aging defense despite the signing of Joey Porter will not be enought to win this game.

[off the record: I think I might be exaggerating, 4-1 to start? O_o]

Week 6: Texans @ Jaguars (17-14)
Even though we own this team, this will still be tough. Jaguars have a good defense, and a good offense, and we're in their house. We'll see about this one.

Week 7: Texans @ Titans (27-24)
The Texans won't make the same mistake twice. They passed on Vince Young, and I think he's showed his "gratitude" for it and we'll beat him in this one. The Titans do not have any weapons this season, other than Mr. InVINCEible himself. If this one ends similar to last seasons home loss, DeMeco Ryans or Mario Williams will make the tackle rather than let Vince run for a touchdown.

Week 8: Texans @ Chargers (35-14)
No contest here. Chargers are looking toward Super Bowl XLII, the Texans just to get a winning season.

Week 9: Texans @ Raiders (28-17)
We'll win this one pretty easily despite a good Raiders defense.

Week 10: BYE

Week 11: Saints @ Texans (31-20)
The Saints and Reggie Bush are too much for us. They'll go deep into the playoffs, and though we might put up a fight, in the end Reggie Bush will show us one more reason why we shouldn't have picked Mario Williams. The Saints offense is top notch, and our defense by this point is pretty good. Top 15 at least. But still...

Week 12: Texans @ Browns (30-17)
Browns are a struggling team as usual, and with Brady Quinn back there with a horrific offensive line, we'll march all over them.

Week 13: Texans @ Titans (27-21)
This is Vince's new house. We'll have a chance, but blow it in the end.

Week 14: Buccanneers @ Texans (24-14)
Does anyone else strike it odd we play them twice this season? We win. :P

Week 15: Broncos @ Texans (27-17)
I don't know if Kubiak or our new team can live up to primetime football. Some mistakes by our offense, and blown coverages by our defense might lose this one for us. The Broncos always have a good squad, so thats even more reason for us to lose.

Week 16: Texans @ Colts (33-21)
The Colts are at home, in the dreaded dome. So we lose this one. :O

Week 17: Texans @ Jaguars (28-17)
We own the Jaguars. Simply put.

So let's tally my biased record. 9-7. Hm, better than I thought. If we get lucky, we might go 10-6. :O

20 cuts later...

Well, we cut some "big" names today. The one I'm most suprised with is Rookie Jared Zabransky. I was his biggest fan. :O :'(

But yeah, the list is here:

RB Wali Lundy, P Chad Stanley, QB Jared Zabransky, WR Keenan McCardell, WR Jacoby Jones (ROFL, jk!), DB Dexter McCleon, and Bethel Johnson just to name a few. The rest of the names are here.

But yeah, Resign Jared Zabransky, the Sooner Killing Machine!!!

Wherever he goes, I'll still be a fan....when he doesn't play the Texans.

Texans Lose, but oh well...

Yeah, the Texans lost 31-24, but really, who cares that much about the 4th preseason game anyways? Our 2nd string started, they came out hard. A quick drive by Sage Rosenfels created a touchdown and a even quicker fumble return made the score 14-0. That was it for the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter we slowed down a bit, as the Bucs came back with a 24-0 run. We started to gradually come back until a 24-24 score ended about 10 minutes ago.

No stats for ya'll this week. Except for a few. Keenan McCardell - 1 catch, 16 yards. The rest of the receivers each had 1 catch, with about the same ammount of yards. Catches for 16,14,13,12,14, ect. lols, hard choice for Kubiak. Jones stood out even though he only played a series. He had 1 catch for a TD in the first quarter. Was a good catch, and an even better throw by Sage. No one really stood out this game other than him however, they are the backups after all. Hm?

Now, I'm not really covering this game very well for the following reasons: 1. Its the 4th game of the preseason. 2. We're going to be good this year, and this loss shouldn't concern anyone. 3. I didn't really get the chance to watch quite a bit of it because my mom changed the channel to watch TBS. :/

But yeah, a week and a half from now we get the Cheifs coming to our house. It'll be a good game, and I have this one down as a win since the Chiefs have a subpar offense, and a struggling defence. They're 0-3 in the preaseason, currently.

See ya'll in a bit. Thanks for reading.

O_O Texans-- Owners of the Governor's Cup

Yup! We beat 'em! One of the top teams overall in the league, and our first team dominated theirs. Tony Romo still had almost 200 yards, but he had an interception and a couple of TDs on the night. I beleive he went 14 for 26. But who cares? This is a Texans blog!

Matt Schaub had a wonderful night, finishing 12 for 16 with 109 yards. Another person we've been keeping an eye on was Green. He had a beautiful run in the 2nd half, which led to a touchdown.

Speaking of TDs, we sure had our share of them. 4-4 in the redzone, all four of them touchdowns. Now, Kris Brown did miss a field goal, but that's okay. He's 9 for 10 on the preseason. Andre Johnson had a TD, Jacoby Jones actually had 2 (one punt return and the other receiving), and the other two, I don't even remember we were scoring so much! :O

Now, on the topic of our special teams and Jacoby Jones, our defense on the Cowgirls first possesion forced a 3 and out, and Jacoby Jones recieved the punt at the 9. He then went straight down field for his 2nd Punt Return touchdown in the preseason. He can do anything! He can catch, return, and run. That beautiful catch for a touchdown was the exclaimation point in a 2 minute drill, and it happened to be right in front of me. The catch was a beauty. He caught it at its highest point, and it was almost a circus catch.

Our defense was fierce when it came to the run. They couldn't run if it depended on their life. Pass Coverage was a somewhat different story, even if we did force two interceptions. Our QB Pressure improved dramatically, 5 "pressures", 4 "hurries", and 3 sacks I believe. One was even by our local lazy lineman, Mario Williams. Alliteration aside, Mario Williams actually made his pressence felt this game. He had a few tackles and the sack. Our now 20 year old rookie seems to be adjusting quite fine, as he had a tackle or two and half a sack.

Now, Reliant Stadium's atmosphere was astounding. It was about 65 percent Texans fans, 35 percent Cowboys. Actually, thinking back. There might have been more Cowgirls fans. :O Reliant got a record attendence for the preseason tonight, over 71,500 showed up. We were looouuuddd, too. I haven't heard it that loud since maybe the Colts game and before that, the inaugural Texans game against, well, the Dallas Cowboys.

There's no greater feeling than beating the Cowgirls on a Saturday evening, eh?

P.S. COWBOYS SUCK!

P.S.S. I heard my cousin and I were on TV, but I'm not sure. I watched the game when I got home via DVR, but I didn't see us. I saw my dad though. :O

O_O The Houston Texans Win a Game! (echo)

Well, after weeks of looking for an answer (two... XD), the Texans finally found what they were searching for. Matt Schaub took command in the beginning of the game, by going 9-12 with a TD. The Texans at times dominated the Arizonal Cardinals, but who are we kidding? The Cardinals weren't exactly a playoff team to begin with. At least it looks as if we're at the median of the league.

Jacoby Jones, again stoodout. His 80 yard punt return was the highlight of the game. He even had a few catches, as well.

Kris Brown's still proving he's worth keeping. He's 8/8 on the preseason.

Let me get back to Matt Schaub. Remember that Bootleg he had a free touchdown at last week, but instead he wasted the rollout to pass the ball with an incompletion? Gary Kubiak wouldn't let that happen again, as Matt Schaub used the rollout to his advatage to run for 5 yards on his way to the endzone. He had 108 yards on the day, and he looks great. Much better than last week, even though he didn't do anything wrong against the Bears.

Jared Zabransky is much better, it seems, than Van Pelt. Zabranksy looked a little nervous at times, but you could tell he had poise sometimes too. He also ran the offense more efficiently than Van Pelt.

Our running game did decent too! Green's trying to prove he's not over the hill, and he show'd he still has wheels this game. Again, sorry for the lack of stats, HoustonTexans.com does not show them.

Overall our first stringers looked great, it's just... ya know, the lack of pressure that's still a problem.

Our Texans won the game 33-20.

Bring on the Cowboys!

Cochran Screws up; Texans lose in closing minutes

Well, not much can be said about the first preseason game.

Kris Brown showed us he can be consistant, much unlike he's been in the past two years. He nailed all of this four of his field goals, and was voted the MVP by fans in the Verizon sponsored vote.

Jacoby Jones is definitely someone to watch for in the games to come. He's a explosive returnman, and can have the chance to become the number 2 reciever in the future. He caught all but one balls thrown to him, but I'm not entirely sure about the exact number because NFL.com doesn't have the official stats yet. I also don't know because at the game, its hard to keep track of that.

Matt Schaub didn't show much today, he was in there for 2 series and went 3-5 for 25 yards. I honestly think Gary Kubiak should have kept him in there longer to give the fans more of a taste. He should be playing for about a half next week, however.

Jerome Mathis, who's under the fire after a talk with Gary Kubiak, show good hands and that he still should be the kick returner. He almost broke one midway through the game, but alas, he was tackled by the slowest man, Robbie Gould. It was about 80 yards, give or take some, and it gave the Texans life after a Bears TD in the 2nd quarter.

Von Hutchins pick was a refreshing thing to see, especially because we don't see many of them. :P

Our 3rd string quarterback, Bradlee Van Pelt, sucks majorly. I want to see Jared Zabransky in there, and maybe do a fancy Statue of Liberty. Haha.

We were winning 19-17 in the final minutes, but a bonehead decision by Earl Cochran screwed up the projectory of the entire game. Cochran was penalized on 4th and 6, by a running into the kicker penalty. Trying to standout and block a kick is good, but don't try it if we get the ball back anyway. If this penalty wouldn't have occured, I'd be in a good mood.

Robbie Gould kicked a 47 yard FG with 0:36 seconds left to put the Bears up 20-19. And meh, we lost.

But at least we know one good thing about this team.

Our 2nd string can kick any 2nd string team's ass.

EDIT: I said this as a comment on one of my favorite blogs, and I thought it was funny, so I thought I'd share.
"Hey, wasn't that 1 completion by Van Pelt a beauty?! LOL."

It's red and white and blue today.

Houston, TX, Are you ready for some football?

Well, it's finally here. The official start of that certain time of year.

With many questions to be answered, the Texans are gearing up for their Preseason opener against the NFC Champion Chicago Bears. Even though this is preseason, expect the Texans to come out strong, not only to show the fans they can be competitive with the best of them, but also to show Matt Schaub wasn't a bad trade afterall.

Even as I gear up for today's game, I feel ready to tackle what fans call the "best defense in the NFL". Well, they haven't seen the Texans yet. (Just being optomistic :P)

Stay tuned for my Post-Game recap later tonight, and see ya at the game.

Re: They're Back...!

Re: They're Back...!

"I believe I smell football in the air?

Thank god. Our roster is actually looking like...well, a roster, for
the first time in a long time. It's not often a Texans team actually has some
depth.

I'm glad Okoye and the Texans got an agreement, as well as McCardell.
Though I would like to see more WRs in the hunt, it's good to see we have a
veteran in the mix.

Though I may not comment every entry, I'm still here lurking. "

News Galore!

Well, last week we got our season tickets, and might I say, they are be-a-utiful!

We got that same black leather folder, but who cares. Oh, and our picture is in the Fan Guide too! I think it's page 13.

Training camp starts later this week, but I won't be there because I'll be out of town. ;o I'll be in the city where our opponents of the "Reggie Bush Bowl" or the "Toilet Bowl" play.

Man, did we release a lot of people yesterday. I think the biggest suprise, but that the same time no suprise, was RB Darius Walker. He was our second prized posession in our Undrafted Free Agent Class, behind OU-asskicker Jared Zabransky of course.

Here's the full list of who we released:
FB Cory Anderson, G Atlas Herrion, C Enoka Lucas, CB Derrick Roberson, RB Darius Walker, P Eric Wilbur and LB Zac Woodfin.

I can't wait for August 11th, either.

Until Monday,
Anthony

Who will win in a race?

Alright, who will win in a race? The Texans or Christmas?

Right now, I'm betting on Christmas by a mile.

Texans news has been so slow this past month. The greatest excitement we've had in the past month is Keenan McCardell coming to town. Houston's still pumped about that one, right?

I was sitting here thinking I was being too lazy to find some buried new Texans news, but nope. I'm not. I just checked on HoustonTexans.com, and I found the News section littered with recycling paper and "Meet So-and-So, the cheerleader" videos. I think I saw 6 of those back to back.

Don't get me wrong, I still watched it. But golly, the real Texans news is still a month an a half away.

Broncos Sign Adams

The Broncos signed him.

I hate the Broncos.

Do I smell a new rivalry? Hm?

Man, Texans news is sloooww. >.<

Sam Adams?

No, not the drink or the historical icon. Sam Adams will visit the Texans as a free agent, and is looking forward to working with a familiar face in Gary Kubiak.

Kubiak and Adams were both at Texas A&M. Kubiak as the runningbacks coach and Adams obviously as a defensive tackle.

If they do come to an agreement, it will be a major win for the Texans because Sam Adams can both be a teacher to the young lineman, and he's a gigantic man who easily can stop the run. I'm not exaggerating when I say "gigantic" either.

Dunta's quote about Williams

This is just a mini-post, but this should be something to tide you over until some big news comes out.

"You can't judge a guy by his rookie year," cornerback Dunta Robinson said. "Mario did a lot of great things for us last season. He was very good against the run. Now he just has to get that other part of his game in place".

Dunta's absolutely right. You can't judge a player by his rookie year. We saw that exactly with Robinson. He had a tremedous year, having 6 interceptions with 3 sacks. I'm in no way trying to put down Robinson, especially because I think he's the hardest hitter and worker on this team, but in this What-Have-You-Done-For-Me-Lately league, he's only had 3 more interceptions and 1 more sack since that rookie season. To tell you the truth, I think he should have kept his mouth shut about that, because people like me are now remembering that he really hasn't done much since then, ya know? Kinda reminds you of someone, doesn't it?

New Blog

Hi, I'm just an ordinary person trying to do an ordinary blog while in the midst of attempting to not be bored during an ordinary summer.

My name is Anthony Espinoza, and I'll try my best to cover Houston Texans through the average fan's point of view.

If you'd like to know more about me, and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't but just in case, add me on MySpace.

Hopefully, you'll come back and read what I think. And tell your friends, why don't you? Sooner or later I'll make a layout for this thing.
